Malmesbury Victoria stepped up their pre-season preparations with an emphatic win over Purton writes Bernie Davies.

The Vics started well and went ahead on seven minutes after a shot from the left was parried by the Purton’s keeper and fell kindly to Matty Jenkins who made no mistake from close range.

Malmesbury started to turn up the pressure on their lower league counterparts, and a cross from the left by Shane Bumphrey evaded the keeper to ended up in the net.

The Vics continued to press, and it was no surprise when Matty Jenkins crashed the ball home from the edge of the box on 34 minutes.

The pressure continued and Bumphrey got his second of the night when he let fly from outside the box to give the hosts a comfortable 4-0 lead at the break.

The Vics extended their advantage in the 65th with a powerful header from Sam Parker.

Things got worse for Purton when Steve Plees was shown a red card for something he said to the official in charge.

The Wiltshire Senior League side did get a deserved consolation goal just before full-time with a smart finish by Rob Lincoln.
