HERE'S a first glimpse of the much-anticipated revamp of the Offa Bar at the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford.
The Hereford Times popped into a special preview in advance of the bar's re-opening to the public on Saturday.
What had for years been a junk room has been transformed into a swish cocktail bar as part of the landmark hotel's £2.5 million renovation.
The bar now boasts plush seating and stylish decor while retaining its distinctive period features.
The Offa Bar has an iconic place in the history of Hereford's nightlife scene.
It was where the county's leading cattlemen met after after sales in the nearby market to mix business with pleasure.
Many of the city's most influential people joined them.
The range of drinks at the bar is supported by Chase Distillery, who will provide the house vodka.
The Herefordshire firm also sponsored a recent competition to find the bar's lead cocktail mixer, Henry Patridge, who the hotel is calling its 'mixologist'. He will be devising a regularly changing menu of classic and seasonal cocktails.
Hotel managing director Julian Vaughan said: “It has been an exciting time bringing the Offa Bar back to life with its rich history of being the social hub for the city, which we hope to create again.
"Our focus is on local and seasonal, so visitors can expect the best cocktails made with the best local ingredients.”
Local brands include British Cassis, Chase Distillery, Ludlow Gin, Penrhos Gin and an extensive list of local ciders curated by Susanna Forbes author of The Cider Insider and co-founder of Little Pomona cider.

The Offa Bar will be open from 6pm to 11pm Thursday-Saturday. On other days of the week, the bar can be hired for exclusive use, mixology classes and private cocktail parties. For more information contact Ananda Hill ananda@greendragonhotel.com.
