There are long delays on the M5 southbound this afternoon.

Two vehicles were stranded in lane three of the southbound carriageway following a crash between junctions 19 and 20.

Traffic was stopped while emergency services worked at the scene but has now been released.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to a two vehicle RTC in the third lane of the M5 near to J19 (southbound) at about 1.20pm.

"Lanes two and three blocked with tailbacks of traffic. Vehicles moved to hard shoulder.

"One of the drivers is being taken to Southmead Hospital as a precaution. Motorway re-opened shortly after 2.30pm."

Delays of 75 minutes have been reported by Highways England.

There is more than seven miles of congestion with queues stretching back towards Almondsbury.
