Teachers greeted some 70 Archway School students this morning as they arrived nervously to pick up their A-Level results.

No pupils at the school obtained straight A or A* grades this year, however while most students took three subjects, one Archway student, now home in Germany, received A* to B grades for a record five A-Levels.

Head of Sixth Form, Mr Matt Redman said, "We have had a 6% improvement of BTEC Distinction, A* and A grades this year.

"A* to C grades, including BTEC Merit awards are up by 4% overall, with overall passes up by 1%," he added.

Headteacher Mr Colin Belford said, "I'm very proud of what our students have achieved through hard work and commitment to their studies.

"We have enjoyed celebrating their results with them this morning."

High achievers at the school included Julia Brookes who obtained A* for Art and Design, A for Drama and B for English Literature.

"I have a place to do an Art Foundation course at Stroud College," said Julia.

Archway School student Serena Cobb was joined by her younger brother Fraser, 15 and mum Yvonne who came to support her.

Serena has chosen to undertake an apprenticeship and has been offered a position at St James's Wealth Management in Cirencester.

"It's such a relief to receive them and to see I have done better than expected," Serena said.

Serena's boyfriend Jared was also collecting results and was happy to gain his BTEC in Engineering which allows him to begin an apprenticeship with Moog Aircraft Group in Tewkesbury in September.

Noah Griffiths celebrated his results which enable him to take up a place at Cardiff University to study Computer Engineering.

"I am on my way to a four-year degree at Cardiff and my belly is turning over right now at the thought of what is next!"

Noah was congratulated by Archway's Head of Sixth Form Matt Redman.

"Thank you for everything you have done to help me," said Noah to his teacher.
