Stroud residents are among those being targeted with courier fraud scams, police have warned.

There have been a number of incidents reported in Cheltenham, Stroud and the Forest of Dean, with elderly people particularly vulnerable.

The victims received a call from someone falsely claiming to work for their bank who has told them their bank cards needed to be replaced.

Following this call, someone has arrived at the victims’ addresses to collect their card. In some incidents, the offender has given the victim a gift card, claiming this is a gift from their bank for being a valued customer.

During this conversation, the offender has been able to trick victims into disclosing their PIN. Shortly afterwards, the victims cards’ have been used to withdraw cash or make purchases.

Victoria Brinton, cyber protect officer for Gloucestershire police, said: "Neither your bank, nor the police, will ever ask you to hand over your bank cards, withdraw or move money, or to provide personal information such as your PIN.

"These types of scams tend to move to other areas quickly so please remain vigilant and share this message with elderly relatives, friends and neighbours.

"If you receive a call, please report it to us on 101."
