The man that was killed after a horror crash on the M4 yesterday has been named by police. 

Gwent Police confirmed that the individual that lost his life in the incident was Romanian, Florin Marius Muntean.

The 49-year-old was driving a lorry when he veered off the motorway after falling ill at the wheel. 

In the statement, Gwent Police said: "At approximately 10.30am on Wednesday 4th September 2019, Gwent Police responded to a report of a serious road traffic collision.

"It was reported that a lorry had left the carriageway and gone down onto the embankment and onto land alongside the M4 Westbound at the end of the Prince of Wales Bridge.

"The male driver of the HGV lorry was airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, but he was sadly pronounced deceased upon arrival."

"We can now confirm his identity as 49-year-old Florin Marius Muntean from Romania. His family have been notified by specialist officers."

The Prince of Wales bridge re-opened this morning.

Due to the extensive damage caused to the bridge, the westbound carriageway wasn't able to re-open until the early hours of this morning.

Highways crews worked through the night to repair the central reservation barrier and install a temporary specialist barrier on the nearside.

The closure caused traffic chaos for a large amount of commuters, with up to six mile delays on both sides of the bridge, and some motorists reporting being stuck in traffic for almost three hours.

Officers are continuing their investigations in to the incident.
