THE Sub Rooms plans to host an annual event in recognition of the people who came together to save the building, when ownership passed to Stroud Town Council just five months ago.

The Stroud Shindig is on Friday, October 18, with tickets on sale for £12.

Expect bands, performers, artists and DJs who are nationally acclaimed and have connections to the town.

There are also plans to install a Wild Boar Gin Lounge with DJs.

Hugh Phillimore, co-chair of the Sub Rooms’ Trust said: “We knew that we needed to thank the town for all of their hard work and support, and this seemed like the most appropriate way to do it - a huge party, Stroud-style.”

Acts will include favourites Boss Morris, Jonny Fluffypunk and Thee Ones plus special guests.

In addition, after an extraordinary collaboration at WOMAD Festival this year, Eva Lazarus and the Mighty John Street Orchestra who will be appearing with MCs Grove and JPDL.

In just five months the team have already refurbished the old tourist information office into a more welcoming space, introduced a new website and ticketing system, and installed the systems to allow card payments at the bars.

“That’s just been the start of the really hard work,” says Hugh, “What we’re focusing on now, is making sure that The Sub Rooms evolves into a vibrant venue.”

Future renovations include, improving the Kendrick Room bar and the venue’s cafe.
