A motorcyclist is in a serious condition in hospital after a crash near South Cerney last night.

He was found in a partially water filled ditch at the side of Northmoor Lane at 11pm last night.

The road runs adjacent to the old airfield and the 29th regiment barracks and camp on the outskirts of Cirencester.

Police found a man with serious injuries and his motorcycle lying in the ditch.

The man, in his 50s and from the South Cerney area, was found with serious head and facial injuries.

He was initially taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where he was treated and assessed before being transferred to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The man's next of kin have been informed and he remains in a serious but stable condition at this time.

Specialist collision investigators from Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Police attended the scene and conducted a forensic examination.

Officers investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone who travelled along Northmoor Lane between 9pm and 11pm last night and who may have seen a motorcycle or the man lying beside the road.
