SCOTT Mitchell insists it "wouldn't be right" if he were offered a spot in next month's prestigious Grand Slam.

The Bransgore thrower has featured in each of the past four Slams, the only tournament on the calendar where members from both of darts' main codes, the PDC and BDO, go head-to-head. Eight members of the BDO are set to be invited to compete for their share of the £550,000 prize fund alongside PDC stars such as world number one Michael van Gerwen, reigning Grand Slam holder Gerwyn Price and two-time world champion Gary Anderson.

Despite never making it past the group stage of the event at Wolverhampton, Mitchell has taken home £17,500 from his four previous visits.

However, having ended the BDO season ninth in the rankings, 'Scotty Dog' is not expecting to take his place in the 32-man event, which begins on November 9.

Mitchell told the Daily Echo: "I think being at number nine in the rankings, I know the chances are with eight players going, whichever way the BDO decide to do it, I think there's no real chance of me making it.

"And it wouldn't be right if I made it. There are other people in the rankings that deserve it far more than me.

"They've got themselves into the right position to take the rankings and maybe to take me as a slightly bigger name than they are would ultimately be wrong and I probably wouldn't agree with it and wouldn't accept it if it came to be fair."

He added: "I think there are far more worthy players. And I know that sounds daft and people will say 'no, if they give the spot go on and take the money'.

"I would be kind of reluctant to do that because I feel there are players that are in a better position and have played better during the year than I have and deserve the place more."

Mitchell last week competed for England at the WDF World Cup, reaching the pairs final alongside Daniel Day before losing 6-2 to Canadian pair Jeff Smith and David Cameron.

Netherlands won the overall men’s team event with the quartet of Jeffrey Sparidaans, Chris Landman, Luc Peters and Martijn Kleermaker. They finished on 90 points ahead of Wales (87), with England in third (73).

Mitchell was beaten 4-3 in the last 32 of the singles event by Kleermaker.
