PHILIP Billing believes it is “about time” he made his senior Denmark debut with the midfielder hoping to feature for his nation tonight.

The 23-year-old, who has played in all eight Premier League games for Cherries since joining from Huddersfield in the summer, is yet to play for Denmark, despite being called up three times this year.

Billing, who was capped for Denmark at under-19 and under-21 level, was an unused substitute during Saturday’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Switzerland.

But he is in line to debut when his country host Luxembourg in a friendly at Nordjyske Arena in Aalborg this evening (6pm).

Discussing the prospect of featuring for Denmark’s first team, Billing told the Daily Echo: “If I got my debut now it would be about time to be fair!

“I’ve been there a few times and it would be nice to get my debut for my country and that’s what you dream of since being a kid. Hopefully it will happen this time.

“You never know whether it’s going to be this time or not, but all I can do is work hard and see what happens.

“It’s positive to be in there (the squad), but obviously I’m not just happy to get called up. I want to play as well, that’s why I’m there and hopefully this time I will get my debut.”

The Danes are well placed in their qualifying group following a 1-0 win over Switzerland, currently sitting second behind Republic of Ireland with two games to play.

“We’ve got a good team with Denmark, so we have to get into that Euros in the summer for sure,” added Billing.

Billing became one of Eddie Howe’s most expensive purchases as Cherries boss when he arrived for around £15million from the Terriers in July.

And while he stopped short of calling for Age Hareide to select Billing in his Denmark side, Howe was full of praise for the impact of his new recruit.

Asked if he feels Billing deserves a senior debut, Howe said: “It’s difficult for me to comment on their team.

“That’s their manager’s right and choice to pick what he wants and feels is the right team for them. But just looking at Philip individually, I think he’s done brilliantly for us so far this season.

“He’s been very energetic, very athletic, powerful and technically he’s been excellent for us, he really has.

“I think he will continue to get better in that aspect of his game.

“I think he’s got a goal in him. We haven’t seen that yet, but I think he’s got goals in him. He’s had a few that have just narrowly missed.

“So I’ve been really pleased with his contribution and this is just the start for him.

“I see a very bright future ahead.”
