A man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary following a high speed pursuit yesterday.

At around 1.30pm yesterday, officers became aware of two suspicious vehicles in the Malmesbury area.

The driver of a grey Audi S3 failed to stop for police on the A350 north of the M4, and an authorised pursuit occurred southbound towards Chippenham.

The suspect vehicle reached speeds of 130mph as it headed towards Chippenham town centre, and was being driven at around 70mph in a 30mph zone along Malmesbury Road.

The driver then left the vehicle behind the Travelodge in Foundry Lane before fleeing the scene on foot, running across the railway line and out of sight.

Meanwhile officers had successfully stopped a white Ford B-Max on Scotland Hill, near Upper Seagry, north of the M4.

A 25-year-old man from Semington was arrested in connection with a burglary in another force area and has since been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Det Con Kevin Golledge, from North Wiltshire community tasking team, said: "We know Chippenham was very busy at the time of yesterday's pursuit and there will be people who witnessed something which could help with our enquiries.

"The driver of the Audi remains outstanding at this stage, despite extensive searches of the area.

"If you were in the town centre yesterday and saw the Audi being driven dangerously and erratically, or if you saw the suspect when they fled the car, then please call police.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage which could assist our investigation."
