All lanes on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junction 12 and junction 11A have reopened after a body was found this morning.

Lanes two and three on the southbound carriageway have also been reopened.

A 50 mile an hour speed limit is in place past the scene on the northbound carriageway and a 40 mile an hour speed limit is in place past the scene southbound.

The M5 was closed in both directions earlier after the body was discovered.

Police are currently investigating whether the body could be that of a missing person reported this morning.

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire police said: "Officers investigating the circumstances of a body found on the M5 this morning say that efforts are ongoing to identify the person who died.

"One of the leads detectives from the Constabulary's Criminal Investigation Department are following up is whether the body is that of a missing person reported this morning.

"Formal identification will not be possible for several days as tests will also need to be completed."
