A MURAL of Albion legend Bruno is undergoing a facelift after it was met with mixed response.

The new artwork appeared earlier this week in Ditchling Road.

It depicts the former captain with the quote: “Once a Seagull, always a Seagull”.

Several people criticised the piece, asking if Bruno had suffered a stroke.

The art was painted after a competition run by Brighton-based The Stag Company.

A spokeswoman for The Stag Company said: “Due to the complexity of the new Bruno mural project we are finishing off the mural as soon as possible.

The Argus:

“We just want to reiterate that it isn’t the finished piece.

“Painting a 7.5m mural behind sheeting with limited space during the winter months is very difficult, but Glimmertwin has excelled with this task.

“There has been mixed reviews but our main objective has been to bring the mural back to Brighton and feature a mural that the city will be proud of.

“We are confident that the fans and the community will be happy with the finished design.”

The mural was painted by an artist known as Glimmer Twin.

Earlier this year, a painting of the skipper on the wall of ice cream parlour Gusto Gelato in Brighton’s North Laine was removed, sparking outrage among residents and fans.

The 38-year-old called time on his career at the end of last season, retiring after seven years on the south coast.

The Spaniard is now part of Graham Potter’s backroom staff.
