STROUD Town Council is holding three election information drop-in sessions for those who are interested in becoming a town councillor.

Residents will vote for representatives for all 18 seats on Stroud Town Council on May 7.

Drop-in sessions are being held so people can find out more about what the role involves.

The first event is Saturday February 1, from 10am to noon at the Council offices at Thanet House in London Road.

The other two sessions are on Wednesday, February 5, from 7pm to 9pm, at Farmhill Baptist Church in Farmhill Lane, and on Thursday, February 13, from 7pm to 8pm at St Albans Church Hall in Parliament St.

On becoming a town councillor, Mayor Kevin Cranston, said: “It takes just a few hours a month of your time but you can make a valuable impact on the life of this town.

“Town councillors can be anyone, and what unites them is their interest and passion in local issues, their community and people and their willingness to get involved.”

To stand as a candidate for the Town Council you must be at least 18-years-old, be a British, Commonwealth or EU citizen and live or work in the area.

The notice of election will be published on March 23.

Nomination papers can be submitted to Electoral Services, Stroud District Council between 9am and 4pm on each working day from March 24 until the close of nominations at 4pm on April 8.
