Chipping Sodbury Post Office could be saved according to a spokesperson for the company.

The office has been closed since late November, with the Post Office citing 'operational issues'.

This has meant that residents in the area have been forced to commute to Yate Shopping Centre or Abbotswood on a regular basis.

The Post Office has originally suggested that the shop would reopen at the beginning of January.

Now though an update suggests that it could be saved in the future, but nothing has been officially confirmed.

A Post Office spokesperson said:“We are committed to providing Post Office services to Chipping Sodbury. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of this branch.

"The vacancy is advertised and we are speaking to local retailers to try to restore Post Office service to the area as soon as possible. There is an interested retailer. Talks are at an early stage.

“Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business on a temporary or permanent basis should email ND.enquiries@postoffice.co.uk or phone 0333 345 5560 - option 2. The vacancy is also advertised on www.runapostoffice.co.uk

“In the meantime alternative Post Offices include Yate Sodbury and Abbotswood."
