THE Subscription Rooms in Stroud has issued a warning to social media users after they were made aware of scammers targeting event-goers in Gloucestershire.

Over the last few weeks fraudsters have targeted customers of a number of venues and events who have been targeting people looking for tickets for sold out shows and gigs in the area, leading the historic venue to issue a warning to customers.

Joe Dymond, general manager at The Sub Rooms said: “It’s such a shame that dishonest people are targeting people who want to go out and enjoy themselves - but we have been made aware of a number of venues that have been targeted."

Scammers have been posting on sold out events on Facebook, offering to sell people tickets because they are no longer able to go. Sadly, as soon as innocent gig-goers transfer the money, the dishonest social media user deletes their profile and disappear.

Recently shows at The Sub Rooms such as Scummy Mummies and Trevor Nelson have sold out, and Tweedy and the Valentines a Drag ball with international stars Sink The Pink look set to sell out soon too, but those desperate for tickets should contact the venue, and not be fooled into what may at first appear to be an innocent attempt to sell tickets by those who can no longer attend an event.

“Whilst we can’t tell people what to do, or who to trust - we would strongly recommend that people do not trust anyone who they do not personally know on social media, we do offer a ticket return service at The Sub Rooms - which protects individuals, and their hard earned cash - and we would encourage people to contact our team here if they need any help, of if anyone tries to sell them tickets,” said Mr Dymond.

Anyone concerned that they may have been targeted by scammers for any event or venue in the country should contact Action Fraud initially via their website: actionfraud.police.uk/a-z-of-fraud/ticket-fraud

Those wishing to return tickets, or be added to a waiting list for a sold out show at The Sub Rooms should contact the box office team directly on 01453 796880.
