Farmers' market news with Gerb Gerbrands.

We are delighted to announce the arrival of yet another new stallholder this week at the farmers’ market and doubly delighted that it is both a new primary producer (grower) and a boost for the general health of all our customers!

NutriShoots produce tasty nutritious microgreens and microherbs in a sustainable way in Cheltenham. Microgreens and microherbs are terms for the very early stages of the plant, when it has just the first two or four leaves. This means that the shoots are tasty, as well as packed with vitamins, minerals and live enzymes. This makes them nutritious, flavourful and easy to digest.

Growing microgreens became a passion for Keith after he was told by a doctor that he had ME when he was 19, and that there was nothing they could do to help. He eventually came across live food, with baby greens being a key part of that and went to study at the Hippocrates Institute in Puerto Rico, a recognised leader in this area, in 1992. He has been growing his own food to a greater or lesser extent ever since, after experiencing the significant health benefits that this brought.

The range changes throughout the season but includes sunflower, pea tendrils, broccoli mix, spicy micro mix and many more, with most seeds used being organic.

Nutrishoots will be at the market every week for the next six weeks to see if they will be popular - I give him until about 10.30am on Saturday for being totally sold out, so get there early!
