St Chad’s Church, Shrewsbury is the venue on Saturday, March 28 for the Phoenix Singers’ performance of Handel’s Messiah, starting at 7pm.

This performance will be accompanied by the Phoenix Orchestra, led by Clare Horgan, and the line-up of soloists comprises Gemma King, Oliver Gerrish, Ranald McCusker and James Berry.

Conductor Richard Walker said: “Although Messiah is probably the most frequently-performed choral work, it is always worth hearing. There is scarcely a redundant note in the whole piece, and it spans the complete emotional range, working through Christ’s Passion, through the famous Hallelujah chorus to the triumphant final Amen. It will be both a really polished performance and a tremendously exciting event.

“Our soloists and orchestra love working with the Phoenix Singers, and it’s a great pleasure for us to have such talented musicians performing with us.”

Richard Walker continued: “This is a rare event, since it is only the second performance of Messiah given by the Phoenix Singers in the 55 years since they were founded.” At the last performance, the High Sheriff said: “It raised the roof – the hairs are still standing on the back of my neck! The performance would have graced Symphony Hall.”
