A MAN died in hospital after falling down a flight of stairs and going into cardiac arrest at a Bournemouth Wetherspoon pub.

Emergency services were called to The Christopher Creeke in Holdenhurst Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man, aged in his 40s and from Bradford, was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment.

A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said he died a short time later.

"We were called at 1.42am on Sunday, February 23, 2020 by the ambulance service to the Christopher Creek pub on Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth, following reports that a man had fallen down a flight of stairs and was in cardiac arrest," the spokeswoman said.

"The man, aged in his 40s and from Bradford, was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment. He very sadly died a short time later.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious. His family has been informed and the coroner notified."

Witnesses reported seeing several ambulance and police vehicles outside the venue at the time of the incident.

Wetherspoon spokesman Eddie Gershon said: “ We can confirm that a male customer appears to have fallen down the stairs at the pub.

“The manager on duty tried to resuscitate him.

“We will assist the police in any way possible.

“We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the man.”

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.27am and attended with two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a doctor and an operations officer.

"One patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."
