POPULAR village pub, the Hog at Horsley is set to close.

The current landlord at has revealed that the hostelry will shut down on Saturday.

The closure was announced to customers on the Nailsworth Town Facebook page on Tuesday morning.

The post reads: "It is sad that Roy Human the current landlord has issued this statement: 'We are closing on Saturday with great sadness. But we hope that somebody will take the pub on and is able to make a great success of it. Regards Roy.'

"Roy is moving back to Leeds, we would like to wish him all the very best for the future."

District and county councillor for the village, Cllr Steve Robinson said: "I'm really sorry to hear that the Hog is closing.

"It will be a great loss to the community and I hope a new landlord can be found as soon as possible."

The Hog will remain shut until a new landlord can be found, but there is optimism in the village that it won't be closed for long.

Helen Price, editor of the Horsley Parish Magazine, The Horse's Mouth said: "We are optimistic the pub will rise like a rather porcine phoenix from this temporary setback."

The 600-year-old pub also closed back in 2008, when it was known as the Bell and Castle.

Six years later, it was reborn as The Hog, and quickly became a key part of the community, providing a hub for village meetings and get togethers, with good food and ales, and special events, including the annual music festival Hogfest.

In 2016, it was named as named Best Pub across the five counties at the Western Daily Press Food and Farming Awards.
