THE first case of coronavirus was confirmed in Stroud on Monday.

This was followed by a separate instance in Upton St Leonards, which has yet to be included in the official figures.

The case came to light after Upton St Leonards C Of E Primary School announced on Facebook that it would be closed on Tuesday after a confirmed case of the coronavirus involving a family from the school.

A spokeswoman from Gloucestershire County Council said that the instance of the virus at the school is not connected to the confirmed case in Stroud which appears in the official figures.

She said: "The Upton St Leonards case is not a confirmed case so it’s not connected to the 10 cases confirmed in the county on Monday."

The number of cases in Gloucestershire has risen by four, and now stands at ten, with new cases reported in Stroud, the Cotswolds, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

No further details about the individuals is available.

Sarah Scott, director of public health at Gloucestershire County Council said: “I want to reassure everyone that, with our partners, we are doing everything we can to make sure the county is as prepared and resilient as possible.

“But it is important to be clear - we can’t do this alone, everyone needs to help where the can - check on your neighbours, especially those who are more vulnerable, to see if they need any support, reassurance or just a chat to help make sure they don’t become isolated. It’s a small thing but will have a big, positive impact.”
