The registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships are continuing in Gloucestershire but as a reduced service because of the coronavirus.

Gloucestershire County Council is currently experiencing a high volume of calls as the coronavirus cases in the county is rising.

Anyone who has a ceremony date which is more than three months away is being asked to call back at a later date or contact the county council by email.

Those people with a ceremony within three months and need to either cancel or amend the booking, then press option 3 via phone call.

To attend a birth or death appointment, there can only be a maximum of two visitors and anyone with coronavirus symptoms must not go.

Here’s everything else you need to know, according to the county council:

Notice of marriage or civil partnership

They are currently unable to offer appointments for designated office notices of marriage or civil partnership.  If you have been advised to give notice at a designated register office, you will be able to give notice at any designated office in England and Wales. Please visit GOV.UK for a list of designated register offices.

Ceremonies

If your call is in relation to making an appointment to register a birth or death, visit www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/registration where you can book an appointment online.

If your call is in relation to a marriage or civil partnership ceremony or notice appointment and your ceremony date is more than three months away please call back at later date or email ceremonies@gloucestershire.gov.uk.

If your ceremony is within the next three months and you need to speak with the council to cancel or amend your booking please press option 3.

Alternatively please email ceremonies@gloucestershire.gov.uk with your booking reference, telephone number and nature to your enquiry.

Attendance at a birth or death appointment

Due to the current coronavirus situation a maximum of two people will be permitted to attend a birth or death registration appointment with the registrar.

If anyone suspects they have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 or has a cough, fever or any other symptoms they should not attend.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, but the council are taking these measures to protect both the public and our staff.

Copy certificates

The council are currently unable to offer any services relating to the production of Copy Certificates until further notice.

Re-registration of birth following a marriage or civil partnership

For the time being, they are unable to offer appointments to re-register a birth following marriage or civil partnership of natural parents or to add the father’s details if they were not included in the original registration.

Correcting an error in a registration

For the time being, they are unable to consider applications to correct an error in a register entry unless a correction is imperative.  Please see the council website for further detail.
