NHS STAFF fighting the coronavirus pandemic were given bunches of flowers as they entered Tesco in Cam during special shopping hours reserved for healthcare workers.
The flowers were given on Sunday as Tesco’s new measure allowing NHS staff to arrive one hour before the usual store opening times came into effect.
This will be happening every Sunday.
Alison Jones, a nurse at Gloucester Royal Hospital was overwhelmed by the gesture.
Barb Jones, Alison's mother-in-law took to social media to say: "Credit where it’s due.
"Tesco opened their doors at 9am on Sunday for NHS staff.
"My daughter-in-law,who is a nurse at Gloucester Royal Hospital visited.
"She was overwhelmed when the man on the door presented her with flowers, and a thank you for everything she does.
"Well done Tesco! A lovely gesture."
A Tesco spokesman said: “We know how hard NHS staff are working at the moment.
"So we are opening our doors for them an hour earlier on Sundays, to help them access the things they need and as a thank you for all they are doing.”
Staff at supermarkets across the UK decided to give NHS workers flowers as an extra thank you for all their efforts.
