A Chipping Sodbury greengrocer is being forced to close his doors for the first time in 36 years, amid the coronavirus pandemic
Ian’s Fruit and Veg in Chipping Sodbury High Street will be closing their doors Saturday April 4, as the size of the shop makes it impossible to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Government guidelines on social distancing states the public should remain two metres apart.
Ian Veale, owner of Ian’s Fruit and Veg said:
“After seeking advice regarding the rules of social distancing, it has become obvious we are unable to implement the guidelines of keeping our customers two metres apart.
“The shop is too narrow for customers to get their produce, pay and then leave without passing another customer too closely.
“The safety of my staff and customers is my paramount concern and so for this reason, I will be closing the shop on Saturday April 4, until further notice.
“We hope our customers understand the decision, but please rest assured, as soon as it is made possible, we will re-open and we look forward to welcoming all of our customers back.
“In the meantime, please stay safe.”
