RESIDENTS at a care home in Nailsworth were treated to their very own concert.
Soprano Megan Strachan set up a mic and speaker opposite The Steppes residential home in Cossack Square and sang her heart out as residents listened from their open windows and doors.
Family and friends aren’t allowed to visit the Nailsworth care home due to lockdown restrictions, as coronavirus continues to spread across the UK.
Contact with the outside world is now being kept to a minimum, but soprano Megan managed to lift everyone’s spirits, standing outside and singing a repertoire that included Ava Maria, I Could Have Danced All Night, and Can’t Help Falling in Love.
Megan said: “I am a classical singer and, like so many people in the arts, as well as lots of walks of life, our work has been totally put on hold.
“But I still want to sing and entertain people, and I often fill time between gigs busking to make ends meet, so I am used to singing on shopping streets.
“I also, in normal times, work with Lost Chord, who arrange singers and pianists to go into homes for those with dementia, and I love bringing music to people who might not be able to go to a show or to theatres themselves.
“That’s really why I thought if I went out to sing near care homes, keeping a safe distance of course, I could give some impromptu entertainment and hopefully cheer people up a bit as well.”
Steppes team member Amelia Webb said: “Our residents and staff were all moved to tears by Megan’s singing and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“The residents sat by their open windows and doors wrapped in coats and blankets to hear her sing.
“She is so very talented and provided so much joy for all in these uncertain times.”
