STROUD Police have been out and about today, encouraging compliance with Covid 19 lockdown in the town.

PCSO Gary Lynch spent the morning patrolling Cainscross Road and the lake at The Lawns, the park at Elm Road, and Randwick Woods.

He said all cars parked at the locations were local vehicles, with the drivers making short journeys for their daily exercise or for dog walking.

He then carried out a patrol in Whiteshill, and then on to Stratford Court, where he found one dog walker, and Stratford Park skate ramp, which was empty.

Both Waitrose and Sainsbury’s were busy with lengthy queues, he said.

He checked up on the playing fields at Archway School, where previous breaches had occurred.

He found a group was playing football, and said he explained the lockdown restrictions to them and encouraged them to comply.

Then on to Rodborough Common and Minchinhampton Common, where the majority of parked cars were local.

One was registered out of county, which will be looked into and enforcement carried out if deemed necessary.

Finally, a patrol of the Paganhill and Stratford Road area, where all was in order.

"We are actively patrolling areas where people may gather, open spaces and tourist areas to engage with the public and encourage compliance with guidance to help protect the NHS and save lives," he said.

"Thank you for your support."

Also on patrol in Stroud were SC Rummels and PC Tucker, who took these images of a deserted Stroud High Street and Bank Gardens.
