THE Imperial Hotel in Stroud has closed down.

The downstairs windows of the hotel, which is located next to Stroud railway station, have been boarded up.

The Imperial's manager, Lakshman Gallage, said that he had a ten year lease on the hotel which has now come to an end, and the property has been returned to its landlord.

Mr Gallage said that he has greatly enjoyed his time at the hotel.

Since he took the 200 year-old former coaching inn ten years ago, he has turned its fortunes around, creating a successful family-friendly pub, restaurant and hotel.

He said he has loved working with his tight knit team of employees, and that he was pleased to have been able to help the community by providing a free meeting room for charities and local organisations.
