A road between Wickwar and Charfield will be closed for nearly three weeks from Tuesday.
The Downs will be closed from May 26-June 12 between Wickwar High Street to the junction with the B4058.
This is to allow major resurfacing works to take place.
A post on the South Gloucestershire Council StreetCare Facebook page says: "The works will involve planing off and repairing sections of the carriageway. Because of the extent of the repairs needed and the depth of carriageway we need to remove and relay, it will not be possible to reopen the road outside of working hours.
"Access to businesses and properties fronting the site and whose only access is from the closed road will be available at all times although there may be delays.
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience as we always try our best to keep disruption to a minimum. A signed diversion will be in place. Thank you for your patience."
