Part of the Shambles Market will temporarily be situated in a small section of the nearby Church Street car park on Saturday.

About 25 car park spaces are being used for Saturday only, to make the market safe for shoppers and traders with regards to physical distancing.

A spokesman for Stroud District Council said:“This measure will ensure physical distancing can be maintained, in line with Government guidance. The Shambles Market has traded with a smaller number of pitches due to Covid-19 restrictions but the easing of Government restrictions means more are now allowed.

“Approximately 75 spaces will remain open for parking at Church Street and all 108 spaces will remain open for the rest of the week. There are more than 250 spaces available at the nearby Parliament Street and London Road surface (open air) car park.

“The spaces taken up by the market will be closed to vehicles from 4pm on a Friday until the market is cleared away the next day. The Friday Shambles Market is not affected.”
