Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue service and highways teams are in Nailsworth today as they continue to deal with significant flooding following thunderstorms last night.

Business owners have appealed for help after the flood left shops in the town centre underwater, and drains in the town are also blocked.

James Blockley, Flood Risk Manager at Gloucestershire County Council said: “We are aware of the heavy rainfall yesterday evening and that a number of businesses have been flooded in Nailsworth.

"Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue service are on the scene to help and this morning we have a number of officers on site to assess the drainage of surface water and investigate the impact.

“We are also working on a significant project in Nailsworth to improve drainage to ensure the area can cope with surface water flows such as these in future.”
