The Queen Vic in Stroud will not be reopening its doors on 'Super Saturday' tomorrow, with the owners citing safety guidelines resulting in a 'sterile and impersonal' atmosphere as the key reason.

A statement on the pub's Facebook page read: "Sadly it has become apparent to us that, in order to comply with all guidelines issued by the government and the NHS regarding the gradual reopening of our industry, coupled with the current prohibition on live music and dancing, it is not yet possible for the Queen Vic to recommence trading.

"The safety of both our staff and our customers has to remain our priority and it is felt that by implementing the required protocols it would make the experience of visiting the Queen Vic sterile and impersonal.

"As and when there are further relaxations to the social distancing rules, we will review the situation and very much look forward to welcoming you all back to our humble establishment.

"Many thanks for your continued understanding and support but more importantly stay safe."
