This year's Pilning Flower Show has been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The show, which had been due to take place at the end of August, celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.

Chair Richard Edwards said “Given the Covid 19 restrictions predicted to apply at the time, we just couldn’t see a way of successfully running the show, which is traditionally a very busy and popular indoor public event.

"Issues such as distancing, refreshments, toilets, handing money, presenting trophies, raffle, auctions and the wellbeing of everyone attending, all conspired to lead us to the decision.

"We are very sorry to have to cancel and appreciate that many in the community will be disappointed.

"But fear not, we will be back refreshed and stronger for 28th August 2021!”

This year the organisers will continue to run activities that occur outside.

These will include: judging the competitions for Pilning and Severn Beach’s best gardens, allotments and commercial frontage. Also the tallest sunflower competition, where growers will be asked to send in a photograph and the height achieved.

Additionally, if people have already prepared or grown things specifically for the show, they can send photographs to be display in a ‘virtual flower show’ on the Pilning Flower Show Facebook page, where further information can also be found.
