A South Gloucestershire church has vowed to continue holding drive-in services - after around 300 people turned up to its first event.

St Michael's Church - the actual bricks-and-mortal building - is located in Stoke Gifford.

But, as people couldn't attend in person following the outbreak of coronavirus, Reverend Tom Benyon had to get creative.

He said many of his congregation "really missed the social element", despite running popular services online.

So it was decided to hold a drive-in event in nearby Sainsbury's car park, with a big screen and speakers erected so people could sing along - while socially distancing.

There are now plans to combine with other churches in the area to put on a bigger event in the autumn.

Rev. Benyon told the BBC: "Like so many churches across the country, we've been producing stacks of online services over lockdown.

"But we've really missed meeting and worshipping together as a church family. It was a really vibrant, joyful event - full of laughter and hope."

The event was held on July 26.
