Three more people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a mass brawl in Widnes.

Gunshots were fired during the fight involving up to 20 people on Factory Lane in Farnworth on Monday lunchtime.

The men, aged 24, 47 and 52 have all been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. They are currently being held in police custody.

The two men, age 32 and 33, who were arrested on Monday have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

While a firearm is believed to have been discharged during the incident, there have been no reports of any injuries.

Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and for CCTV footage of the disturbance, which has been described as an ‘isolated incident’.

Officers have increased their patrols in the area in response.

Chief inspector Catherine Prichard said: “This investigation is its early stages, and we’re currently following a number of lines of enquiry.

“I’d like to reassure the local community that, from our initial investigation, we are confident this is an isolated incident.

“As part of our enquiries, we’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information which may aid our investigation.

“We’d specifically like to hear from anyone who was driving in the Factory Lane and Derby Road area around the time of the incident and may have any dashcam footage.

“The same goes for any nearby residents with CCTV footage which may assist our enquiries.

“We have increased patrols in the area, and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the force on 101, quoting incident number IML77066, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 5555111.
