DURSLEY in Bloom volunteers have been working hard to bring a joyful splash of colour to the town.

Despite there being no Britain in Bloom competition this year, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the team decided to create uplifting floral displays ‘to make the town look an attractive place to live and shop in’.

“This year has been a difficult one for many of us, and not least the Dursley in Bloom team,” said Dursley in Bloom chair Penny Hyde.

“We were advised early in the year by the Royal Horticultural Society that there would be no Britain in Bloom competition for obvious reasons.

“Despite this, and being very aware of social distancing and other precautions, a small group of us decided to do our best to make the town look attractive, albeit on a smaller scale than normal.

“To this end we have recycled our begonias from last year and, with the help of the Dursley Town Council groundsmen, installed 25 hanging baskets along Parsonage Street, which is about half the number we would normally plant up.

“In addition, we planted up all of the tubs and planters in the town with a range of plants, including begonias, geraniums, antirrhinums and bacopa.

“Due to Covid 19, the nursery which normally supplies plants for the town hall baskets was unable to do so, but Leaf and Ground came to our rescue with a collection of suitable plants, mainly geraniums and fuchsias.

“We hope the residents and visitors to Dursley appreciate our efforts to make the town look an attractive place to live and shop in.

“We in turn would like to thank both Kitts Green Nursery and Leaf and Ground for their support with lovely plants and generous discounts.”

Dursley in Bloom is always looking for new members.
