Forest Green Rovers have completed the signing of former AFC Wimbledon midfielder Scott Wagstaff on a one-year deal.

The 30-year-old joins Rovers as a free agent following his contract expiration at the Dons, where he made 72 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals.

Wagstaff came through the academy ranks at Charlton Athletic where he signed as an eight-year old, before making 120 senior league appearances during a five-year stretch at the Valley. Spells with Bristol City and Gillingham then followed, before linking up with Glyn Hodges’ side in south-west London.

Having put pen-to-paper for Forest Green, Wagstaff said: “It’s been a long time since I’ve last played and I’ve missed it so much. I am delighted to get this deal over the line, and I am looking forward to getting started.

“I watched the boys play Bristol Rovers on Saturday – and meeting everyone there pretty much sealed the deal for me. It’s obviously exciting times for the club and hopefully we can have a good season.”

Director of Football Richard Hughes said: “Scott is a player we are really delighted to be able to bring into the group. He brings with him great experience and the versatility to play in several positions.

“From the conversations we have had with him, it became clear that Scott was keen to join us. He saw first-hand the performance against Bristol Rovers and felt it was something that he wanted to be a part of. We think he will be a great addition to the football club.”
