Hellenic League Division One West
Thornbury Town 0
Hereford Lads Club 0
This game, the first at the Mundy’s since January 7, had just about everything apart from goals.
FA Covid-19 guidelines saw the ground excellently managed and full to a new lower capacity and the match started at a frantic pace with Hereford’s Price and Hockey causing the home side problems.
The first quarter saw Hereford win corners and create some half chances but Thornbury were dangerous on the break which saw them have some good efforts of their own – a free-kick that wouldn’t come down in time, a Lancastle shot pulled just wide and a Brock effort well saved by the ‘keeper.
Nil-nil at the break.
Town started brighter than they had in the first half and began to create some good chances – Webb blazed over after good work by Brock and Franklin, who also saw shots saved.
A double save from Steve Bell in the visitors goal denied Lancastle and Benjamin (the fact Hereford gave him MOTM tells its own story) and when a Hereford player was sin-binned more home chances came and went.
Hereford had a good chance deflected for a corner in time added on to the relief of the home supporters and both sides had to settle for a draw.
But four points from two tough opening games, another good display from the defence and a second clean sheet is not the worst start to a season.
Man of the Match = Ollie Rawnsley
Thornbury’s next game is away to Abington Town in the FA Vase on Saturday, September 19 with the next home match on Saturday 26 vs Shortwood United in the cup.
