Down Ampney news with Melanie Fouracre

The parish council have received a number of complaints about barking dogs and noisy house parties.

If you are troubled by persistent dog barking please do not hesitate to contact the Dog Warden at Cotswold District Council.

Villagers will also be pleased to see that two new dog mess bins have been placed at strategic points in the village.

This should make it easier for all dog walkers to clean up after their dogs.

Hills Quarry Products will be making their plans for developing a sand and gravel quarry on the Down Ampney Airfield available to the public on Tuesday from 2pm to 8pm at the Kingfisher Room, De Vere Cotswold Waterpark, Spine Road East, South Cerney.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, anyone wishing to view the plans will need to pre-book to attend via the following website: www.airfieldquarry.co.uk.

If you are unable to attend the public exhibition, all information about the proposed quarry will be available at the above website.

Visitors to the public exhibition will need to wear face masks and abide by social distancing rules.

Local support from the parish council and DAFFERS has enabled All Saints’ Church to obtain a £20,000 grant from an Environmental Trust via the Hills Group to repair the dry stone wall along the side of the churchyard and also the one next to the footpath by the new churchyard extension.

Repair work on both walls is expected to start in January 2021, with a formal opening and dedication of the new churchyard in the summer of 2021.

Fortnightly meetings of the Down Ampney Art & Craft Circle are due to recommence in mid-September.

They are held in the village hall on Tuesday from 1-4pm.

Please check the circle’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/groups/DAACC/ or email DAACCGL7@gmail.com for further information.

Taster sessions on drystone walling are planned for interested villagers with the church’s chosen contractors.

Please let the Vicar know if you would like to take part in these sessions, so they can be arranged. Call 01285 851309.
