A cafe in Yate has won a prestigious business accolade in the Bristol Life Awards.

The Vintage Birdcage Cakery in Yate won the award in the cafe category with recognition for their ongoing commitment to their customers during lockdown and the ways they have adapted to grow their business since re-opening.

The team were chosen by a panel of independent and impartial judges.

The judges commented on the VBC saying: “This beautiful, idiosyncratic destination cakery has expanded its offering with increased capacity and its social media has rocketed with clever marketing. It plays its hand well – and confidently.”

Owner Nicole Jones was overwhelmed with the win, thanking her staff for their commitment, she said: "We are totally honoured to have won such an amazing award!

"We try to go above and beyond for all of our customers and I am so fortunate to have a fantastic team to achieve this!

"They are so dedicated and work incredibly hard on a daily basis.

"We love what we do and appreciate all of our continued support."

Nicole and her team worked tirelessly throughout lockdown making and delivering hundreds of free meals every day to elderly and vulnerable members of the community.

Of the lockdown, she added: "It was a humbling experience working with a coach load of volunteers from around the community.

"I thank them from the bottom of my heart to have made it all possible."
