HANGINGS of hand-crafted poppies have been draped from the tower of St James Church in Dursley, in the run up to Remembrance Day.
Dursley fire fighters set up the display of woollen poppies draped from the lower half of the bell tower of St James, on behalf of the Dursley Yarn Bombers.
Led by Kate Reynolds, the yarn bombers had also decorated the churchyard and centre of town with hundreds of knitted and crocheted red flowers.
“The fire brigade have laid a wreath regularly over the past years at the Remembrance Parade in Dursley,” said Kate.
“So I invited them to help support the town again, with putting the church poppies up.
“It’s a great way for them to be involved in community and a chance for the crew to practice with their kit.
“They are very supportive and are looking forward to helping out for next year.”
As always, the yarn bomb will be in place for the two weeks of Remembrance.
Weather permitting, Kate will be out collecting for the Poppy Appeal in Parsonage Street, this Saturday morning, dressed as a giant poppy.
Kate has organised the Poppy Appeal, which is the Royal British Legion’s biggest fundraising campaign, in Cam and Dursley for many years.
This summer she cycled the distance from Cam to Paris, all within the confines of her own garden, to raise money for the charity.
