A drug dealer jumped from a third floor window to escape a police raid - but fell straight into the arms of a constable standing on the ground below, a court has heard.

Chilah Mathew, 26, of no fixed address, had 'cuckooed' the flat of a vulnerable drug user on Matthews Way in Stroud, and was trading in heroin and crack cocaine from the property, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

Mathew, formerly of Wessex Land, London, admitted possessing the drugs with intent to supply and was jailed for five and a half years.

A 22-year-old man whose offences ended with him putting a ligature around the neck of an elderly woman in her own home near Stroud, has been jailed for four years.

Jack Calladine, of no fixed address, who had been taking the hallucinogenic drug LSD, admitted a catalogue of offences of burglary, taking vehicles, and robbery at a hearing at Gloucester Crown Court on October 28.

A couple pushing a small quadbike along the High Street in Stroud were attacked by a 51-year-old man and his partner, a court heard on Thursday.

William Davies and his partner Joanne Harrison, who has since died, were armed with socks filled with marbles which they used in the attack on the victims, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

The judge sentenced Davies to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.
