Former Forest Green Rovers player Joe Stokes is taking part in a gruelling challenge to raise money for men's health charity the Movember Foundation.

Joe, who now plays for Slimbridge and runs fitness company JS Performance with his partner Holly Hughes, will be completing 16 workouts in just 16 hours.

The numbers were chosen to reflect the 16,000 men who die in the UK each year from prostate cancer and suicide.

Each workout will be 35 minutes long, in recognition of the 35,000 men estimated to be living with testicular cancer in the UK.

Last year Joe ran 60km in seven hours to raise money for Movember and highlight the fact that 60 men that commit suicide every hour across the world.

His efforts lead to Joe becoming a charity ambassador, something he describes as 'a huge honour' given his own struggles with mental health that stemmed from his football career.

This year Joe had intended to walk the 102-mile Cotswold Way in one go, but was forced to change his plans following the second lockdown.

Joe, from Wotton-under-Edge, said: "Something so tough required a big support team which simply isn't possible given the lockdown throughout November.

"As a fitness instructor who is running online classes throughout lockdown, I thought what better than a livestream workout challenge.

"Even as someone who is relatively fit, I know this is going to be incredibly tough."

Joe is starting at 6am on Saturday and will finish at 9.35pm the same day. He is encouraging people to join in with the workouts throughout the day as they will be available via Facebook and Instagram.
