A SEPTUAGENARIAN was allegedly caught driving the wrong-way down the M4 in the middle of the night.
Robin Kibble, 73, is accused of dangerous driving and driving while over the drink drive limit. Charges allege he was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus between junctions 16 and 15 on January 26 when tests later showed he had 55mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35.
Appearing before Swindon Crown Court on Friday afternoon, Kibble, of Lady Mead, Cricklade, entered no pleas to the allegations.
His barrister, John Dyer, said there were concerns over whether his client, who suffers from a form of dementia, was fit to plead. “He has no idea why he’s here today. He thought it was something to do with his brother being in trouble.”
The case will be set down for a fitness to plead hearing in the new year.
Susan Cavender appeared for the Crown Prosecution Service.
