Yate runners will be able to use a new 1km running path following a funding boost from local developers.

More than £150,000 secured by South Gloucestershire Council is set to be invested in helping local people in Yate get more active with the creation of a brand-new running path and outdoor exercise equipment.

The construction of a brand new 1km running path in a figure of eight around the Queen Elizabeth II Playing Fields will give residents the chance to get outdoors in a safe environment as well as a dry route across the public open space, with an outdoor exercise equipment trail also running alongside the path.

The funding, totalling £152,146, negotiated from developers by South Gloucestershire Council’s Conservative Administration, is being awarded to Dodington Parish Council from the Former Rodford Primary School and Wapley Court developments, with the latest instalment of just over £73,000 topping up a £78,000 investment approved last year.

Cllr Rachael Hunt, Cabinet Member for Communities and Local Place, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to negotiate this funding which will be invested in a way that is going to make a difference to keeping people in the Yate community active.

“Since 2015, Conservatives on the Council have invested more than £10million into our open areas, green spaces and sporting facilities across South Gloucestershire – including more than £1million across Yate – and I look forward to further investments to support our local communities in years to come.”
