A GROUP of women from Yate have started a monthly fundraising incentive to help raise vital money for a number of different charities in need.

Louise Reynolds, Sam Kennedy, Ami Bowden and Tracey McLaren first decided to walk 5k each to raise money for Walking with the Wounded and dubbed themselves The Christmas Tree Troop.

Walking with the Wounded supports disadvantaged veterans who have served in the Armed Forces and their families.

The teams first effort spurred them on to attempt their next fundraiser in January, to walk 50 miles for charity Maggies.

Groups spokesperson Louise said “We wanted to do something to help especially during these tough times and the Walking with the Wounded charity is an amazing cause that raises much needed fund for our veterans

“After completing our first fundraiser, we felt like we still wanted to do more.”

The team then renamed themselves as the 50-mile-mummies and have embarked on completing their second distance for cancer charity Maggies Centres.

The women are now setting their sights on their February fundraiser and have renamed themselves as the ‘The Fundraising Four’ a name, that they will keep for all further fundraisers.

Louise added: “Our January fundraiser will be a fifty mile walk over the course of the month but then we are going to double our efforts and for 100 miles in February to raise money for domestic abuse charity Refuge.”
