Part of the M5 remains closed following serious crash this morning that involved five vehicles with police saying there had been a 'number of casualties.'

The crash happened around 7am this morning on the southbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 14 and 15.

Avon and Somerset police confirmed on Twitter that there has been a number of casualties, but it is not believed anyone is seriously hurt.

The accident near the Almondsbury Interchange, and junction 14 for Thornbury and Falfield is causing significant delays with traffic backed up on both sides of the motrway and tailinginto the M4

Avon and Somerset Police tweeted to say they believed 'inclement weather and cold temperatures are believed to have caused several roads to freeze.'

Motorists are advised to avoid the route where possible.
