Funding has been announced for schools in Gloucestershire to upgrade their facilities.

On March 24 Gloucestershire County Council's cabinet is set to agree £6.7m additional funding for schools across the county.

The funding includes £350,000 to provide ICT equipment and furniture for pupils attending the new Great Oldbury Primary Academy in Stonehouse which is opening in September. 

Cllr Patrick Molyneux, cabinet member responsible for education, said: “Ongoing investment in our young people is so important and something we are absolutely committed to.

"Over the past few years we have invested more than £100m, making sure young people have the best possible education experienced and can go on to be successful in life.”

The funding includes:

• £150,000 to deliver new alternative education facilities for the Gloucester and Forest of Dean areas

• £350,000 to provide ICT equipment and furniture for pupils attending the new Great Oldbury Primary Academy in Stonehouse from September 2021

• £225,000 to build new classroom space and upgrade existing facilities at Bishop’s Cleeve Primary Academy in Tewkesbury

• £30,000 to help, among other things, upgrade existing facilities at Farmors School in Fairford

• £116,000 to improve existing facilities at Cirencester Kingshill School in Cirencester

• £13,000 towards improving facilities at Mitton Manor Primary School in Tewkesbury

• £106,000 to support the schools plans to improve and increase facilities for pupils attending Chipping Campden School in the Cotswolds

• £41,000 academy schools contribution to various projects

• £6.7m towards improving building and facilities at schools across the county where there is increased demand for places

Cllr Molyneux added: “We have already delivered a range of schemes, like at Bourton Primary and Severn Vale to expand the schools and improve the facilities. The funding cabinet is set to approve will ensure even more pupils benefit in the future.”

The full list of changes that cabinet will be asked to approve will increase the Children and Families Capital Programme by £7.305 million.
