Before he died in 2019, Stroud-based poet and writer Rick Vick compiled a collection of his best poetry and short stories.

With the help of publisher Chapeltown Books, and local editors/writers Philip Rush and Steven John, Rick’s family have posthumously published Rick’s collection under the title of ‘Ways of Seeing’.

Steven John, Joint Founding Editor of Cotswolds based The Phare Literary Magazine, said “Rick was well known in the local area for supporting not just creative writing, but the Arts as a whole. He was a much-loved character and helped put Stroud on the cultural map of England.”

Stroud based charity The Nelson Trust counted Rick’s ability to listen and encourage as an invaluable asset, helping people recover from histories of addiction and offending through the remedial benefits of Creative Writing. Rick’s niece Fern Devine said, “We decided early on that all the royalties from the sale of ‘Ways of Seeing’ would be donated to The Nelson Trust. Rick found working with them, and other charities, to be a truly fulfilling part of his remarkable life.”

‘Ways of Seeing’ is now available on Amazon Books, The Hive and Waterstone’s websites. Steven said, “Our hope is to persuade local booksellers to stock Rick’s book as soon as possible, but all good bookshops will be able to order it in.”
