More than two-thirds of people in Stroud have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows 69,006 people had received a vaccine jab by April 18 – 70 per cent of those aged 16 and over, according to the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those vaccinated, 53,284 were aged 50 and over – 99 per cent of the age group.

It means 15,722 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

The data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas across Stroud.

The proportion of residents prioritised for vaccinations, such as those aged 50 and over, is one factor that could affect vaccine coverage.

Frampton, Whitminster & Eastington is the area with the highest coverage, with 78.6 per cent of people aged 16 and over given their first dose.

Minchinhampton & Amberley has the second highest coverage with 78.3 per cent, followed by Painswick, Bisley & Eastcombe with 78.2 per cent.
