Ebley, Dursley and Stonehouse recorded the most deaths caused by Covid-19 during the first year of the pandemic in the Stroud District, updated figures reveal.

Between March 2020 and March 2021, 18 people died in Ebley and Randwick where the coronavirus was the main cause on the death certificate, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Another 18 people died in Dursley, and in Stonehouse there were 16 deaths.

The average number of deaths among the 15 areas delineated below was 12, with the lowest rate in Wotton and Kingswood; Painswick, Bisley and Eastcombe; and Rodborough and Thrupp.

In the first year of the pandemic, 173 people died with Covid-19 in Stroud.

Across the UK, 127,345 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of April 22.

The news comes as more than two-thirds of people in Stroud have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

NHS data shows 69,006 people had received a vaccine jab by April 18 – 70 per cent of those aged 16 and over, according to the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
